When is abandoning your pet justified?
The answer is very simple: NEVER. A family member should never be dumped for no reasons and leaving them in a shelter is also ABANDONMENT.
If you have an illness, you or someone close to you take them to a residence for temporary care.
If the illness is serious and it's going to prevent you from living with a pet, find a home from someone close to you so the separation is as less traumatic as possible.
If you get pregnant, you do not have to leave your cat no matter how much doctors say there are ways to prevent toxoplasmosis, demand your doctor first to do an analysis for if you have antibodies, which is most likely and otherwise, to give you some tips for living with your cats, like getting another member of your family to clean the tray.
