SOS Podenco Rescue - Coco and Amber looking for forever homes

2 lovely podencos with SOS Podenco Rescue, hoping for forever homes.

Coco is a 2,5 year old podenco that a hunter didn't want anymore. He has been passed around, we imagine that he doesn't hunt very well.

Medium size, around 50-55 cm to the shoulders. Good with dogs, he is playful, quite affectionate with people. Negative to Leishmania.

Amber is a one year old podenca found abandoned in Andalucía. She is very affectionate once she knows you and quite playful with dogs.

Smallish size, around 45 cm to the shoulders. Negative to Leishmania.

She is an adorable, active girl that wants to be loved.

Podenco Frodo hoping for his forever home where he will be safe

Many years ago Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends rescued a female podenca abandoned on a golf course which had a terrible back injury like Frodo. So, introducing Frodo who is looking for a forever home.

'Frodo is a very sweet and submissive dog. The scar on his back is still very sensitive and every day the volunteers have to put sunscreen on it so it does not hurt. He only lets himself be cared for and loved.

Frodo is affectionate and already enjoying walks outside the shelter. Help Frodo find adoption.

Galgos del Sol - helping the Invisibles

Tina Solera of Galgos del Sol has over 20,000 followers on her association facebook page. So let's hope this new initiative will find homes for many of the 'invisibles' - the podencos who have been in shelters for years.

'We put a call out recently to see if we could help any galgos or Podencos that had been locked away in perreras for a long time.

We’ve had tonnes of messsges about Podencos, they really seem to be forgotten. We’ve also had messages about lots of pods on the streets in an attempt to stop them going to the perreras.

The ones already in for years seem to be seen as a lost cause. It’s sad either way when not in loving arms.

Adoptable everywhere in France and neighboring countries

His story: Rescued in terrible conditions (in 3 days he travelled more than 30km between 3 mountain communes in extreme winter weather conditions), he was able to recover thanks to expert techniques. We cried tears of joy when we knew he was safe, under our protection.

Behavior and sociability: Sueño is a podenco love. He arrived exhausted after a difficult rescue, his physical and mental condition were terrible, terrified and very weak. With a lot of delicacy we managed to get him to love and he proved to be a very happy, playful and affectionate dog (he loves pats), he is not scared at all!

Little Podenco Peanut hoping for a forever home

How could anyone not fall in love with this lovely little boy?

He’s just the perfect size to have a snuggle with as you can see from the photo here with his foster mummy aunty Sue.

Peanut is just over a year old, and is still only really a baby.
He’s spent the last couple of months in a foster home to help him overcome his nervousness and to bring him out of his shell.

Although initially he was extremely shy and timid he is gradually step by step learning to trust.

Peanut was particularly nervous around men but he’s overcome that fear and is now comfortable in male company.

Podenca Chiara - desperately needing to get out of a hellhole

This is the sad story of an older podenca, who has given years of loyalty to a bloody hunter - this is he!). Sadly not an unusual tale.

'Chiara is 9 years old and gave all her life to a hunter that happily for her didn’t want her anymore. Seeing where she’s living broke my heart, I hope she can get out of there very soon.

She weighs around 12 kgs and so sweet and calm. (so underweight!)
She really deserves living the rest of her life feeling loved and care.

She is in Murcia area but can travel anywhere.'

Scarred Podenco Frodo, hoping for a better future

Many years ago Bev Farmer rescued a podenca from a golf course with similar scars along her back, lke this poos podenco.

Frodo is a very sweet and submissive dog. The scar on his back teaches us something from his past that was very painful for sure, but he only lets himself be cared for and loved.

Frodo is affectionate and already enjoying walks outside the shelter.

Let's hope it doesn't become another potency.. another podenco forgotten for months and months without anyone looking at it.

Fuerteventura perrera - terriified podencos need rescue

Fuerteventura is one of the smaller Canary Islands and as I am always saying, it's extremely hard for podencos there to find homes on mainland Europe becaue of the cost of transport. Even worse for these poor podencos in the perrera, what hope for them? There are 65 dogs in the perrera, it's full to bursting. The brown & white podenca is only 2 yesrs old, the black puppy 4 months old.

Salvavidas Anidemaicrag is trying to rescue them.

Podenco Rudy looking for a forever home

From L'Atelier du Coeur association in France.

'I present to you RUDY a very nice riugh haired podenco who comes from afar since he was with his sister Leire in a Perrera. Volunteer Marita did what was necessary to get them out of this hell.

They are at the shelter now.

RUDY at 7 months and must not stay too long at Marita's. Already by his age and also by the number of cuties down there. With no more space, unfortunately the risk of a fight increases.

RUDY like his sister Leire are adoptable throughout France, Belgium and the Swiss border.

They are under association cover via our association.

Podencos for adoption with Hope for Podencos

Hope for Podencos was founded in 2014 by Irene and Steve Allan at their finca. Vet Suzanne came on board and they purchased a separate fiinca. Sadly not long after Suzanne died in a road accident. In 2020 Irene sadly passed away and after another couple of years, Steve returned to the UK.

However, there is still a dedicated team working to help the maltreated podencos in Spain.
