From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria
The story of Oreo – a guardian angel on four legs. On January 18th, we welcomed a special boy to our Rescue Center. A dog with a big heart and a backpack of his past. We named him Oreo.
Oreo’s story begins in a lonely place, in the dry and deserted Campo region of Cartagena. As a young dog, he was dumped there, left without help or hope. He had to survive on his own, looking for food, water and safety. One day, Oreo witnessed something terrible. A young Podenco – also dumped and vulnerable – was attacked and cornered by a group of feral dogs. Oreo, despite his own fears and insecurities, didn’t hesitate for a second. He listened to his heart and came to the dog’s aid. That day, he saved a life.
From that moment on, they were inseparable – Oreo and the Podenco we later named Caramelo. Together they roamed, sharing their scarce meals and encouraging each other. Until they were spotted by people with good intentions. A rescue operation was set up, and on January 18th, it was D-Day. Both were brought safely to our Rescue Center.
For Caramelo, that rescue came not a day too soon. He was in bad shape – covered in wounds, with infections and emaciated. Oreo was his savior, his protector, and stayed by his side here too.
Oreo has grown into a dog that you can only love. He is social, affectionate, calm, and never wants to be in the spotlight. He listens well and looks into the world with his soft eyes. He is more than just a dog – he is a guardian angel on four legs.
But despite his beautiful character and special story… Oreo has not yet received a single request. No home. No family who says: “You belong with us.”
That is why we are asking for your help. Share Oreo’s story. Don't let his courage and loyalty go unnoticed. Help us find the perfect home for this sweet boy who has given so much and is finally getting something back.
Together we can make a difference for Oreo.
