Tina Solera of Galgos del Sol has over 20,000 followers on her association facebook page. So let's hope this new initiative will find homes for many of the 'invisibles' - the podencos who have been in shelters for years.
'We put a call out recently to see if we could help any galgos or Podencos that had been locked away in perreras for a long time.
We’ve had tonnes of messsges about Podencos, they really seem to be forgotten. We’ve also had messages about lots of pods on the streets in an attempt to stop them going to the perreras.
The ones already in for years seem to be seen as a lost cause. It’s sad either way when not in loving arms.
Why do we want to search for the forgotten? Unless you’ve seen for yourself the decline of a smart dog trapped in a cage for years it’s hard to understand. Our dogs get out a fair few times a day and can still emotionally withdraw (but we have resources to react) so imagine those that receive nothing except the basics to survive.
A dog on the streets gets an instant emotional response and people rush to help and so they should and so we will continue to do so but those looking at four walls day in day out, being bullied by other dogs, giving up on even eating or ever experiencing freedom again are the ones we want to help this time.
We can’t forget them. Don’t let them rot away unseen. This is Porthos. He was in a perrera for 3 years since being a pup. He’s so scared he just freezes in hope he won’t put a paw wrong. He’s 3yrs old and looking for a patient home. He doesn’t yet walk on a lead and we have to carry him out of the kennel but already he’s curious about his new routine.
Porthos will likely need to be in a home environment to make huge steps forward as the hustle bustle of kennel is so negative for him.
Email if you are interesting in adopting Porthos'.
