WORK IN PROGRESS * PODENCOWORLD TENERIFE * ELY FROM "VIP" DOG TO DOG FOR ADOPTION!
Some poor podencos are so traumatised by their treatment at the hands of the hunters that it can take months and months of patient work to gain their trust in humans again. Ely is one such podenco with Podencoworld Gran Canaria.
'Now the moment is finally there, Ely is ready for adoption! Maybe not with every family, of course he will remain a special soul with slightly longer instructions than dogs without a backpack, but we have decided unanimously that our dear Ely is ready for the next step!
Ely trusts people more and more and more and now just goes for a walk with new volunteers who are still strangers to him. It takes him a while to trust them, but it's all good when he sees the belt. The curiosity and especially the will to live of this nice guy wins over the uncertainty more and faster and we really see him grow every day. He wants to so bad! With the right guidance, patience and home routine we think he will thrive very quickly. We really hope that he will get this opportunity with experienced people. He has come so far and wants so badly... he just deserves that chance!
Ely is also allowed to come with the special one more and more often. Those are not daily like the walks and are really more of a day out, something completely different, in the car, completely new places... there we can assess the dogs like Ely even better and see how they would react outside the "known" area. Ely is loving these days. Despite his insecurities, he still loves adventures and challenges and loves to go out! We help him get into the car and he allows this without tension. Once we start driving he will look out the window with a proud look.
In the mountains on the long belt he really enjoys it intensely! Everything is being investigated but still he watches over you and comes to you when you call his name. This not even for something nice, which is always a bonus, but just because he likes to listen and really does his best!
In the shelter we have the large free-run area all ready and there he will also be completely free. Literally! It's wonderful to see him enjoying himself so freely and what we are very proud of is that he comes to us immediately when we call him there. How beautiful is that?
Ely can't be placed with every family of course but we know for sure his perfect home is out there and we hope he will be noticed by his own human soon. If by now he knows how to enjoy himself and dares to grow in the shelter, we can only imagine how grateful he will be to have a family that he can be loyal to forever and where he will finally feel safe!
