'ADOPT A GRANNY! Granny podencas are like your favourite teddy bear as a child. Their fur was a bit thin from so much cuddling. But you never found a dearer friend.
Our friends at the refuge "La Sonrisa Peluda" near Malaga have a number of "Granny Podencas" who desperately need to get out of their shelter and into loving families. They vary from age 6 to older and have a variety of health conditions that are well controlled with medication but they need to be in the cleaner environment of a gentle and loving family home to really thrive and re-find some of their youthful joy that is still there in them.
Can you offer this to ALMA, VALENTINA, DIANA and their friends? You can look on their page for more about each of these sweethearts. Being the Mum of a Granny Podenca myself (our beautiful Lupi, who is age 12 -14, we don't know exactly) I can vouch for the joy of having one of these older girls as part of your family. Podencos are long-lived dogs and always up for a little mischief and lots of cuddles, but when older they quieten down from their cheeky energetic ways and are perfectly suited to you if you have a quieter life yourself: they love a bit of mellow mouse-hunting in some long grass, a bit of a mad-moment scamper on a nice gentle walk, a little play with their siblings and then a nice long sofa snooze.
Podencos are soulful sixth-sense loving special hounds who you can't help but fall madly in love with. Imagine how good to help ALMA heal up and blossom from the allergies she is struggling with. Her leishmania is under control with her pills and cannot infect your other dogs at home. Put a podenco in your life/pon un podenco en tu vida. Your life will so be enriched as you turn their life around. Granny Pods are just fantastic!

ALMA in the first photo is "totally" recovered, 2 and 3, she was very sick, she has Leishmania which hasn't touched her organs, but her LEISH affects her a lot from the earth that is in the shelter. She has been with us for over 3 years, during which we have fought tooth and nail so she doesn't get sick again but.... While she is in contact with the land that is INEVITABLE, in the parks of the Refuge there has to be land. We don't want her to die from this. That's why we ask for a home for her, plus she deserves it, 3 years in the shelter. She needs to be away from the environment causing her allergy, for her medication, special feeding, special baths - in a home she would have the life she deserves away from this.
