Adopt a Granny Podenca

'ADOPT A GRANNY! Granny podencas are like your favourite teddy bear as a child. Their fur was a bit thin from so much cuddling. But you never found a dearer friend.

Our friends at the refuge "La Sonrisa Peluda" near Malaga have a number of "Granny Podencas" who desperately need to get out of their shelter and into loving families. They vary from age 6 to older and have a variety of health conditions that are well controlled with medication but they need to be in the cleaner environment of a gentle and loving family home to really thrive and re-find some of their youthful joy that is still there in them.

Earlier this month Galgos Rescue Almeria, along with other rescues, were involved in taking to safety over 70 dogs living in terrible conditions in a shelter which the authorities closed down. These 3 podencos were among the dogs GRA took to their shelter.

'We picked up these 3 podencos in terrible condition and now a period of recovery and healing can begin for them, as well as the galgos we took too. They've been in an unimaginable filthy shelter for God knows how long and unsurprisingly they all have Anaplasma and Erlichia, fleas and ticks. Fortunately it can be treated but also can't be underestimated. Untreated it can also be deadly.

They've now had a shower, for one boy we need to visit a groomer because his coat is in bad shape. You can see flea infestation needs treating urgently too. Named Madroño, Artillero and Teddy.

Walking in Scotland for Podencos in Need

Podencos in Need Scotland help rehome both podencos and galgos. As with all the rescue organisations, they rely on donations and fundraising. Here's the latest fundraiser.

Just 5 weeks until Edinburgh Kiltwalk, when Levi the Galgo and family are walking to raise awareness and funds for PINS. Not sure if training walks have been manageable in this heat but their fundraising is coming along nicely. Thanks for all the donations so far!

Podenca wins Medium Agility Champion in Spain! Podencos make great agility dogs!

Great news from Bev Farmer - that a podenca has become an agility champion in Spain.

'Congratulations to Adrián Granda and Tila. Weekend of 13/14 August they became the Spanish champions in the Medium Category for agility. Adrian posted this- 'this is no longer a dream, it’s a reality. The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people are saying you are not capable of doing'.

Well you two showed the world how special the Podencos are.

Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK is the UK agent responsible for rehoming abandoned and often abused dogs from the Scooby Animal Shelter in Medina, northern Spain. We find suitable foster and permanent adoption homes throughout the UK and take care of all the stages from bringing your chosen Spanish rescue from the shelter to the UK.

Our aim is to help Scooby Medina rehome the excess of dogs that they protect to prevent them living the rest of their days in the shelter, sadly there is simply not enough demand at this present time to all be rehomed in Spain. Over time we hope this might change and our services will no longer be required. This can only be achieved by educating and raising awareness throughout the rural communities of Spain into understanding the importance of neutering and to eradicate needless neglect, cruelty and abandonment for good.

It never ends but this is truly the lowest humanity can sink........

This 12 year old Podenca was found severely dehydrated and very underweight, out in the burning hot temperatures currently plaguing Spain. She was wandering alone in the countryside and arrived at an isolated country house. The owner of the house called Eleanor Nikki Fearn to tell her that a dog had appeared there in very bad condition.
She was taken straight to the vet and it was discovered she also has aenemia and several mammary tumours. She is really in a very bad state and definitely has not known any happiness in her long life.

Seville, Spain - dogs dumped before holidays!

Holidays are a terrible time around the world for people dumping their dogs before they go on holiday. This is in Spain.

SEVILLA!!!! Holidays are here and we are full of dogs. They are all cheap excuses for heartless people who don't give a fuck about the animal. This poor wretch only 3 months old and his "family" threatens to take him to the perrera, at best, at worst he'll end up in a garden or in the ditch of a road. They don't pay travel or take him anywhere, imagine what the puppy cares.

Podenca terrified to death!

Whatever can have been done to this poor podenca to make her so terrified of life. Hopefully someone will come forward and rescue her from the Baza-Granada perrera!

She is so terrified she does not get up from the ground, totally submissive, cradled with fear, how much has she been beaten to an inch of her life?! The perrera or shelter is not a place for her, the cries and howls she hears scare her more and more.

Please, someone help, she has already suffered enough
