At the beginning of May several podencos and galgos started their journey from Spain to their forever homes in the US. Here's part of their story, Bev Farmer reports.
'8th May
Just got word from Alisha Marie from The Sanctuary at Bluebird Lane, all dogs are on board and the flight is ready to take off.
Thank you to Brian Hughes from Ibizan Hound Rescue who transportedto Airport.
There are six dogs on this flight from 4 different rescue groups here in Spain. On arrival to Los Angeles George Knott and Scott Gulledge of Galgopod Group will be waiting to assist Alisha and Shannon at the airport. In total 7 rescue groups here in Spain snd the USA worked together to give these 6 galgos and Podencos the opportunity of a better life.
Day 7 of the transport ...
(See video ) All the dogs look so chilled out, Alisha Marie and Shannon are making regular stops on route. Yesterday they called into Chrysann Collatos of the Rosa Project ( helping special needs Podencos from Spain ) giving the dogs a chance to have a break. It amazing these dogs who didnt know one another before arriving are so relaxed with one another.
To give you idea how epic this journey is, they will have travelled 16,872 miles 27,152 kms. To put this in perspective its 24,902 miles 40,075 kms to circle the earth.
To quote Alisha "They’re into the groove of the trip with many miles still to go, but what’s a few thousand miles for a lifetime of love."
Gracias Chicas for everything, you rock
I was always amazed how the galgos and podencos got on perfectly well together when I worked with the team from L'Europe des Levriers beinging them from Spain back to France for rehoming. There was never any fracas. They get on better than some people!!
