'Good news. The case of the Podencos de Mogán, which you will surely remember, is finally advancing in the courts. Statements have been taken and, in general, the instruction of the procedure seems to be on the right track. We will fight to the end to obtain the maximum sentence for the people responsible for the terrible state in which these dogs were.
After years of intense struggle by PACMA together with protectors from the area, in April 2020, at last, those known as "the 90 podencos de Mogán", who lived crowded, famished and among their own excrement in this municipality of Gran Canaria, they were seized and rescued from a life of exploitation and mistreatment. A few months ago we were able to see how they recover, free and happy, in foster homes.
Already in 2013 we began to denounce the horrible situation of mistreatment and overcrowding experienced by the podencos used for illegal breeding and hunting in the Canary Islands. In Mogán, the PACMA team witnessed and documented the deplorable confinement of almost a hundred hounds, locked in cages, severely malnourished, without any hygienic measures, living with the corpses of their companions and feeding on their own faeces. After years of fighting and denunciations, last year their luck finally changed.
At PACMA we work every day to save animals like them from exploitation, abandonment and abuse, to toughen penalties and to prohibit hunting.
Hopefully there will be more good news about this case soon. And, as always, for them, the fight continues!'
