This appeal is from the Association which worked to free the Podencos of Mogan and is caring for them ready for rehoming.
'Every year in the field many see our grounds and neighborhoods invaded by hunters who respect nothing. We get pellets in the yard, dogs get in the house, hens kill us, break us crops, fences, pipes... threatening us. We fear for our lives, our animals and goods.
They take advantage of places with few neighbors and little surveillance to commit their atrocities. Officers usually arrive late if they arrive and we are unprotected by lack of surveillance and impunity for hunters.
They also don't respect the environment, they hunt in special protection areas where hunting is prohibited, they shoot protected birds, cats and whatever is terrified.'
We want the law to be enforced. Respect for the safety zones, not allowed to hunt alongside houses, crops, domestic animals, roads, recreational areas and protected spaces. Increase the available troopers and take measures to ensure compliance with existing regulations.
Every year, across the Canary Islands, numerous hunters violate hunting regulations and dog training areas:
Hunts next to houses, with dogs and shooting shotguns, not allowing us to make normal life. The 100 meter safety distance is violated.
Hunted on private grounds against the will of the owners, even if they are present and refuse.
Hunted in crops and with domestic animals. Sometimes they even hunt domestic animals.
It is hunt on roads and trails, which have a 50 meter safety zone by law.
Break fences and water pipes (vandalism).
Game dogs are loose (in practice that's hunting) in safety areas. (Article 47.10 Law of Game)
Hunted in protected areas whose regulations do not allow hunting, and are not marked as such. (Game Act art. 12)
Hunt allowed in the sunset and outset, but many start before and end after. Environment agents schedule is 8.00 to 20.00 so many hunters take advantage of making their vandalisms before and after.
Hunted in dog training areas where you can't hunt (Regular fields).
Camping where camping is not allowed, with numerous dogs that don't let us sleep with barking.
Hunted in newly replanted areas, preventing regeneration of our forests.
Exotic species are released, such as partridge, and rabbits (considered invasive by IUCN among others) only to have more to hunt. This is prohibited in Natural Spaces protected by the negative effect especially on flora.
In many islands they are allowed to hunt still on fire hazard warning days, with the danger of starting one (by a butt, for example) or hindering evacuations or access to firefighters with their cars parked in tracks.
And yet if we report these facts normal is to wait hours and what they can do is catch another hopefully. Many times no one comes, noting Cecopin, 112 and Civil Guard. Still taking them, they aren't usually punished and no photos or videos are allowed to prove the violations.
We ask:
Remind hunters, agents and citizenship over all regulations concerning safety zones and exclusion zones where no hunt can be hunt, including banning loose dogs in safety zones.
Strengthen troops so that agents of a body can attend in maximum half an hour.
May the trooper s' schedule be extended to cover evening hours as well
Officers patrol preventative conflict zones while they are busy.
To admit evidence such as photos and private recordings for sanctions.
Let data be provided to Justice when there is crime so our complaints can thrive.
Ban hunting on fire danger warning days.
Please help us end this impunity that affects us all.
