For 4 years GRA try to make a difference in the life of street, abandoned, abused…dogs. Yesterday, every Rescue’s worst nightmare became reality: burglary and dogs stolen.

Our 2 newcomers, the beautiful Podencos China and Volcan were stolen from their kennel. Wednesday evening they were picked up from the people who had found them and today we had an appointment for a general check up, microchip and vaccinations.
A wonderful new future awaited them, what “future” awaits them now? A life of hunger, thirst, fear, abuse and deprivation ...
We are speechless, bewildered, despondent and angry.

Angry about the impunity that reigns here when it comes to criminal acts against animals.

Please share as much as possible! We desperately hope to find China and Volcan back.

For those who took them, please bring them back.

Wina is an older dog who is very gentle and calm, she enjoys a siesta in the sun to the fullest. However, she has some scars on her body and face, she won't have had an easy life. Before she ended up with us she was waiting in a death station most likely dumped by her hunter because she was getting too old. She is very social with other dogs, big and small, bitch and male. Wina is no longer a young girl but longs for her first home with owners who like to spoil her.

Protectora Scooby - small podenco looking for a forever home

This little boy recently arrived and as you can see his health is not very good. He has skin problems and we think it may be Leishmania, so we are going to test him and keep him under surveillance until we see that he recovers. He is a very good little podenco of about four years old but for now he is still scared.

Notice how he has filed his fangs, we have never seen anything like this!

When he recovers, because we trust that he will soon gain strength and feel better, he will need a family to share the rest of his life with. Chip n°...263675

Asociacion Huellas Gaditanas - a deserving podenco needing a forever family

So sad that when a hunting dog gets older, they are abandoned to their fate. So cruel after they have been loyal servants.

Introducing POCHITO - He was literally letting himself DIE on the edge of a road. Abandoned, never had a show of affection, waste of people who only see it as a hunting object, nothing else. Fortunately, an angel took him off the road and without showing any kind of rejection he let himself be rescued. Now he recovers in a foster home, from his physical and psychic aftermath.

He is about 9 years old, Podenco Maneto, small size and he is regaining his desire to live, he just wants to lay down to the sunny and needs a lot of love because he is quite afraid and suspicious. He is sociable, calm, noble, he askes only for a comfy bed, food and lots of love.

He needs a definitive family.

Portuguese Podengo Polly - safe with Dogs of Portugal

Look at this sweet little podenca, would you believe her ears and tail have been cut by some sub-human before she was dumped. She's lucky to have been found alive. Read her story on this weblink.

Update on the 3 podencos with Akira Animal Sanctuary.

This is was the skinniest of the three poor dogs as you can see from the photos he is malnourished however we are working hard to remedy this and he is already much more comfortable.

Chance has had his blood tests back and it relieved he has leishmaniasis so we are treating and getting this condition under control. Once under control it doesnt hinder daily life and controlled can be maintained with an inexpensive tablet. He is a sweet boy and will make a lovely addition.

Now we have the gorgeous Chase. If you look closely you can see this handsome boy had a heart-shaped nose. They are all very sweet natured dogs and it's appalling that they arrived so poorly. We have just had confirmation that he has heartworm, ehrlicia and Leishmania. We will of course be giving him treatment but this is a lot for his body to go through and much can be prevented easily.

Coco. Isn't he just a sweetheart? He has had his tests and he has come back positive for heartworm which of course he will be treated for. So glad that these 3 are in a safe place with us to start down the road to recovery now we know what each of their issues are.

Walking dogs off lead

OH and Bracken were lucky this morning. They had just got back to the car after a lovely walk along the river bank when a BMW 4x4 pulled up with 3 boisterous dogs inside. Luckily the owner didn't let them out until OH had put Bracken in the car, whereupon she opened the tailgate and the 3 dogs flew out leaping around. Bracken isn't very friendly towards other dogs now, so it could have been an unpleasant situation! Having said that, their owner should train them to wait in the car till she gives permission to leave, it's what we do with our dogs.
