New arrivals at Podenco Friends

'These two arrived this week. Blanca the white one a female 8 years old. Pinto a male 13 years old. Both from the same owner that had them both all these years) we have the original passport ) who signed them over to the perrera 2 days ago. When this happens there is no requirement to wait 21 days before they can euthanize the dogs.

Who dumps a 13 year old dog into a pound just before Christmas and although I really don’t have space I made it happen. No way were these two going to be left there.

Thank you to Jenny Screen for making the drive down to deliver them to the Finca on Christmas Eve. Also to Pam McLeod of Podencos In Need Scotland who donated 100 euros which paid for their release fee and transport and some left over to help towards veterinary fees.

Both settled in baskets with a thick blanket to sleep on. Blanca has a swollen wrist and can’t bear weight on it so I’ve given her some anti inflammatory and pain relief. Pinto has some lumps that need checking. They are both quite stressed so for now just letting them rest.

Podenca Bella - failed foster with Podenco Friends!

Yesterday was Bella's (Bell bell Buttons) gotcha day. 9 years ago we were standing in a railway station in Murcia waiting for her to arrive; yes she travelled down on a train... She was the very first podenco we rescued with the intention of finding her a home. That went out the window and yep, failed foster. She is real joy, a truly happy dog, really tiny but has the biggest heart and our pocket rocket... Found on the roadside in Cadiz, a bag of bones, she was curled up and they thought at first she was dead she was so thin. Thankfully someone was kind enough to stop and pick her up but many passed her by... So glad they did. Why she was left we will never know but so happy she found us.

URGENT - podenca Laila in Valencia perrera - please help

'LAILA, Podenca - has been sitting in the killing of Valencia since today. She is very skinny, currently showing anxious. She appears to be between 1 and 2 years old, we'll find out more about it from the vet. She is medium size. We could save her together, provided she finds a foster or end position from the end of January / beginning of February 2021. Currently we don't know more about her. PodencoRescueAssociation. Podenca Esca starts using her leg

Update on Podenca Esca with Podenco Friends

'Update for Esca ... on Monday the specialist checked her leg. He is very happy with the progress the plate and screws are stable and we can begin with physiotherapy to encourage her to use the leg. She has finished her medication for the surgery so now we have started treatment for Anaplasma for 30 days. Her anemia is improving..

Depending on the how well the fracture heals then the plan is to first remove the screws. Then a second surgery to remove the plate. We won’t know until then if Esca will need a further surgery to fuse the joint. Hopefully with physio we can get full function of the leg and she won’t need it ..

She is doing so well and such a sunny personality and a great sense of fun. I have no idea why anyone would abandoned such a sweet lovely dog.'
