The Azores belongs to Portugal. We know about the rehalas and maltreatment in Potugal, this has just surfaced!
'Desperate situation of Podencos in the Azores Islands - Protection of this ancient breed is an important protection of Portugal's cultural legacy.
Today's images of S. Miguel Island in the Azores. These are groups of starving podencos left behind like trash. If you drive along that green road you will find many more, desperate. A small group of very kind and dedicated rescuers try their best with little or no support from who should support them.
Could there be a more startling contrast with the beautiful Azores landscapes? Let us remind ourselves this is one of the oldest breeds in the world, undoubtedly part of Portuguese cultural heritage. Is this how these stately beautiful dogs end up?'
