These 2 posts are taken from a recent newsletter posted on my Podenco Post facebook page. It illustrates what the wonderful volunteers have to cope with helping hounds in Spain.
Irys
At 14.00 on the 09/30/2020, the volunteers at Baza dog pound were told about a dog tied up on the motorway near Granada, 100km away from Baza. A rescuer from Baza didn't hesitate to drive and find her. She found her not tied up, but in an absolutely horrendous state. It seems she had been there for over 4 days! Crawling around in pain, not eating or drinking.
She has a fractured pubic bone, and TWO BROKEN FEMURS! GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT SHE ENDURED. In Baza there is no traumatolgist surgeon, so on the 10/10/2020 we were told by the Hospital Sur Granada that the extensive surgery she needs will cost 1236.20 €. In the Norte clinic Baza we have been told that she NEEDS SURGERY IMMEDIATELY, THE BREAKS ARE HORRIBLE AND IF THE BONE BEGINS TO FUSE BADLY THE PROBLEM WILL INCREASE. So Irys was booked in for surgery for the 02/10/2020. That meant we had to find all the money in time. Amazingly we raised ALL the money needed for the surgery and the Baza vet bill in less than a day.
Updates to follow after the surgery.
Dunia
A post was made about a dog who was extremely thin and looked pregnant in Iznalloz, Granada. An association said they would help but could not go and get her. Daniel from Patrulla de Patas along with his friend Maria went to get her and take her to a vet in Albolote, Granada on the 18/10/2020. Unfortunately Dunia was not pregnant. She had an inoperable malignant tumor all the way through her stomach which had even gone to her legs. On the 19/10/2020 a heartbreaking decision was made and Dunia was euthanized.
Rest in Peace Dunia. Gone but never forgotten.
