Tanamera Rescue - helping Podenco Samwell from the perrera

29/10 - Meet Samwell, who was thrown over the fencing into a perrera and urgently needs our help. Jenny is trying to get him out asap (dogs are usually not released before the 21 days are over). He looks so fragile and in need of medical care. Fingers crossed!!

30/10 - Good news for Samwell! Because he is so unwell, the perrera has agreed to let him go into foster, poor little man will stay with Jenny for the night and arrive at Tanamera Rescue tomorrow. Come on boy, be strong and you will be loved for the first time in your life!!

Update on Podenca Esca with Podenco Friends

28 10 2020. Thank you to the boy’s.. Eduardo, Bruno and Jose of Eduardos pets for today. After talking with them this morning they asked for me to bring Esca in to the Clinic.. We were there 2 hours, she had an ultrasound xrays blood tests and we discussed the results.

Ultrasound confirmed the pups are active with a good strong heartbeat and looks like she has 5 pups one been quite big. Xrays also showed 4/5 pups but possibly 1 more hidden from view. The large pup they checked the size of the head to Escas pelvis and should be ok..

She has tested positive for Anaplasma we can’t start her on Doxycycline it can damage the development of the puppies bones so have to wait until they are weaned. She will probably pass it onto them via the placenta but it’s treatable once the pups are old enough.

Waiting for lab results for leishmania

She is anemic and has low platelets which affect the blood clotting.

Very pregnant and injured - Podenca Esca now safe with Podenco Friends

A few days ago Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends put out an appeal for this podenca, which a group of volunteers were trying to capture. If they could get her, they needed transport to get her to Bev.

Esca has been on the streets for 2 months ....2 weeks ago she was caught in an animal trap, the owner of the trap released her but let her go. She is unable to walk on the leg and the bone is exposed and she is also pregnant. It's urgent she gets to see a vet.

Tina Reeves who lives in the village has been trying to catch her for weeks and been feeding her, this afternoon Esca had the good sense to enter into Tina's house. It's a very rural part of Spain and there are no local vets.

Galgo's Rescue Almeria - need donations to pay for leishmania treatment

Disposing of dog poop

If like me you have a few hounds, I've had 5 at one time, down to 2 now and a podenca, then disposing of their poop can be a problem. A friend of mine with kennels uses a stack of old tyres, building them up one at a time to a tower. She covers the poop with soil and leaves and it eventually breaks down into compost.

Here's a similar idea as well as several others.

Remember the story recently of Podenca Crystal who escaped from her crate at Toronto airport. The whole airport was shut down whilst a dozen volunteers attempted to catch her. Luckily due to the excellent recall training she received with Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends, she was eventually captured safely. Now she's relaxing in her for ever home - the look on her face says 'who, me' I never caused all that trouble!!'

This week GRA welcomed this beautiful Podenco Ibicenco. This beautiful big boy is only 9 months young, he’s is used to living with a small dog and a cat. Unfortunately due to a change of circumstances he could not stay with his family and GRA was asked to find him a new home.
