How to train your dog off-leash

Many people can walk their galgos and podencos off leash. Unfortunately mine have strong hunting instincts and as we live on a farm with meadows full of birds, hares, feral cats and the neighbouring ones have sheep in, we can never walk ours off leash. PACMA demand hunting in Castille y Leon be stopped

The Spanish animalist party (PACMA) claims the protection of wildlife and takes legal action.

The Hunting Act in Castilla y León (Spain) will be amended to "paralyze any hunting activity until further notice". All this at the request of PACMA (Party of Animalists Against Animal Abuse).

Laura Duarte, spokesperson of the Spanish animalist party, argued that the regulation in question does not comply with the European directive "habitat fauna flora", which applies to all species. Therefore, "if it is not consistent, this paralysis should continue".

Should you soak dog croquettes?

I have lived with dogs all my life - when I was born our family dog was already 1 year old! As far as I can remember, we have always put a small amount of gravy or stock on our dogs' meals. My elderly galga Carmela now has problems crunching large croquettes so she is on the ones for small dogs which she manages no problem. However, I must admit I am not keen on the idea of soaking croquettes for hours.

Mom podenca & puppies rescued from French hunter

This Mom podenca and her puppies have been rescued from a French hunter. They are now under the care of Association G.A.L.G.O.S. in Aude, France. If you can offer a forever home to one of them, please contact the association, details below.

Suite à notre post sur le chenil de la honte dans l'Aude nous avions passé un appel pour deux podencos oritos. Aujourd'hui la saisie a eu lieu et ces deux podencos ont disparu. Par contre une maman podenco d'Ibiza a été saisie avec ses deux chiots de 4/5 mois. Ils sont adoptables de suite séparément. Nous contacter pour plus de renseignements, après avoir connu l'enfer ils ne doivent pas rester au refuge.

Podenca Zarita doing agility at Crufts dog show

Podenca Zarita is one of Bev Farmer's podencas who found a fantastic home in the UK where she learnt agility and has excelled and become a wonderful Ambassador for the breed.

Zarita will be at Crufts this week. If you are attending on Saturday then Pop along to the “Dog Activities Stand” in Hall 3 near discover dogs, Zarita be there most of the day to receive any cuddles and kisses that are going. She’ll also be partaking in two agility demonstrations with the team.
