Portfolio of Podencos by Podenco Friends

Message from Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends. If you have adopted a podenco from her, or know someone who has, please give them this message.

'I have been asked to submit a portfolio of photos about the Podencos to be considered with a view to be published in one of the top photography Magazines in Europe. With the help of a published professional photographer of this magazine we are preparing this over the next few days with a story line about the podencos. How I started taking photos and the emotional connection people have with them.

So at the moment I am going through loads of photos trying to decide which represent the Podencos and for those who have adopted them. But it would be great to have some input from you guys and welcome any suggestions of a particular photo I have posted resonated with you and the reason why.

This would be a amazing opportunity to get "the great forgotten" story out there to a massive audience and could lead to greater things. Lets do this !!!'

Podenca pup left for dead at the side of the road

A few days ago we got the notice of a dog next to the highway crawling from its back legs. After hours of search we were able to find her. She's barely 7-Months old, just a puppy that was run over a long time ago and has been without any kind of attention or food. We quickly took her to the clinic for our vet to examine. After doing different tests it has been possible to see that she has several injuries on the 2 legs that have healed badly. She has at the bottom of the femur a callused body due to a untreated breakage that will have to return to its natural place.

She must be operated as soon as possible to make a femur rectification by shortening a piece to return the articulation to the vertical angle and return the kneecap to its natural site. Trying to increase the mobility of the joint and avoiding the advanced wear in the leg or short or long term which might result in amputation.

Hope for Podencos Calendar 2019

Hope for Podencos have produced a 2019 calendar which contains twelve spectacular images — a celebration of our rescue Podencos large and small.

All proceeds go towards the building of the new kennel block (The Suzannah Stacey Saving the Gran Canaria Podencos Memorial Kennels) which is so desperately needed for us to continue our work.

Christmas & New Year wishes from Podenco Post

Bebe and myself wish all Podenco Post readers a peaceful and joyous Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous 2019. Thank you all for continuing to read the News and supporting the appeals to help need hounds.

My adorable little Bebe is 16 years old now, slowing down a little but still bossing the galgo pack around! Below are a few pix we're sharing with you, including one of the first ones I received when she was rescued with an injured hip from a road in Seville. Such a tiny skinny traumatised little podenca.

There's also one of her in her favourite spot in front of the fire with buddy Polar from Pepis Refuge and another with Bracken from Galgos del Sol. Also helping Polar, Carmela and Bracken clean up the barbeque!

Bev Farmer - remembering Warren

'Three weeks ago my life changed forever and it all feels surreal and I think that Warren has gone out and will be coming back and I miss him so much and so the dogs they keep looking at me for answers. He would have hated that he has left me with everything to sort out but thankfully he will never know for he died in his sleep. I never told him enough times I loved him or appreciated all the hard work he did but I loved taking photos of him with the dogs and it was my way of saying we are a team and I couldn’t do this without you.

I hold on to the last day we spent together it was a lovely warm winters day in Spain and we spent most of the day out in the paddocks with the dogs . It was just one of those rare days that felt so relaxed and lots of laughter and in the evening he cooked me one of my favourite dinners, a quiet night in watching a film and surrounded by the dogs, just content in each others company, everything to look forward to and now that has all gone.

Meet the Breed - Ibizan Hounds in the US

'Meet and Greet' has long been popular in the US to introduce people to the Galgo. Now we have 'Meet the Breed' for the podencos. Wonderful idea.

'Three cheers for all the folks in Orlando, Florida in December who were part of the "Meet the Breed" booth, letting the public meet and learn about Podencos.

Salvemos Podencos - 2 young ones hoping for forever homes

Meet Vera, a pocket sized podenca only a year old. She's a failed hunter and has an injured hip and pelvis, probably from a bad kick. Vera needs a lot of help, for her veterinary expenses, the little one still doesn't have a foster home to recover from the operation. She is very sweet, sensitive and quiet and needs an opportunity to start being happy, she's already known the worst of this life, it's time to start enjoying it. Please give a home to this sweetheart. Adopt and save a life!

The second podenca is Susi, (photo below) a podenca who was abandoned and left to look after herself, only a baby. She is full of tenderness with her bambi face and her sweetness. She's loving and playful, sweet and sensitive and needs needs a family to grow strong, healthy and happy, someone to guide her on her way of socialization, so important in a puppy to feel safe and loved, someone to fall in love with her and want to give a home. She will be medium sized.
