Buzz was dragged away from his mum and chucked away like rubbish! This gorgeous boy was born around 15 October and is so adorable. Likely to be small/medium when fully grown.

Podenco Santana - Podenco Friends need your help for him

Bev Farmer and warren Beards are always there for the podencos, no matter how many they have (one bitch recently rescued in the nick of time just gave birth) nor how desperate the situation. Read the story of Santana and please donate towards his vet feets.

'Santana has been with us a few days and we have been waiting for a lot of lab results to come in and an assessment by a orthopedic specialist. Another Podenco Ibicenco discovered in a lamentable condition his body so depleted he struggled to walk. Left as he was, he would not have survived.

He has a fracture to the right hip, the specialist has recommended not to operate, there is already a reaction to the bone so it's not a recent injury. Surgery could make it worse plus he is at very high risk to have anesthesia due to his poor body condition. For now, restricted exercise, pain meds and it may heal ok on its own. If not, in the future they will need to remove the head of the femur.

Starving podenco needs help

Another podenco found in a terrible state...urgently need a foster home for him where he can receive the medical help and care he needs.

'Podenco found in very bad condition...we took him to the vet and he has no chip. He is a male of one year more or less. Axarquia Animal Rescue at Torre del Mar have an assortment of hounds at their shelter, including podencos and podenco X. You will see 4 on this page. You've already seen Rani's Christmas wish a few days ago. He's just one of several waiting for forever homes.

Last year I bought a copy of their calendar containing the most delightful sketch pictures of animals in their care, one for each day. And the squares are big enough to write in those important diary dates - a must for me! Little podenca Leila - waiting for her forever home

This adorable little rough haired Podenca is with Protectora de Animals Morrazo and she is waiting and waiting for a forever home. Here's what they say about her.

'Leila has spent a lot of time in the protectora and after two failed adoptions we couldn't give her back to her kennels so a volunteer took her to cure an allergy and see what the problem there was with a podenca that only weighs 6 kilos. We have to say that Leila is pure joy and tenderness but the months pass and what promised to be a short stay is extended, which harms this beauty.

Our fosterer has 6 dogs apart from those who need homes. Leila needs a definitive home where she finally sits in her place. Will you be her angel and offer that to her? Please help us to keep helping.

Podenca puppy on the streets of Jerez, Seville.

It's a very hard life on the streets for a podenca puppy. I received an appeal for help for this little one on the streets in a village in Jerez, Cadiz. Stoned by local children, on heat, the 2 volunteers trying to catch her couldn't take her into their homes as they have male dogs! Luckily through appealing widely on facebook, I've had the news that she is rescued and safe.

In The Canary Islands, the podengo, in addition to hunting, seems to be used in races, at least in Fuerteventura. The Information I find is 2012 / 13... does anyone know if these races are still in force today?

Watching the tremendous and abundant abuse of this race on the Islands sickens us - and knowing, also, all the abuse that accompanies the races of galgos on the mainland - it's not crazy to think that after these races there is a lot of misery and suffering of these dogs in the " Lucky Islands'.

Podenco Orito Foxy - happy in his forever motor home!

It's always great to publish a happy ending story for a lucky podenco...so many appeals for help and reports of cruelty cases...so enjoy reading the story of Foxy.

'My name is Linda and I travel around Spain and Portugal in my small motorhome. In 2017 in the summer a small (now I found out) Podenco Orito was clearly abandoned and was trying to survive on his own. He must have been on his own for a while as he was very skinny, scabs on his ears and nose and he was covered in over 40 ticks.

I don’t know why, but for some reason he picked me, he would come to me even though I did not even feed him. After about two days we became friends and he let me touch him and, with the help of a friend, we removed all the ticks. He was afraid to come inside my motorhome, but the moment I bought him a doggie bed, he was inside and claiming his space!
