You may remember I recently published the story of Podenco Rio, found as a stray by a couple walking the Santiago de Compostela route, and who was adopted by them. On 12th October they arrived at their destination, as Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends reports.
Team Rio Jennifer Mark and Rio completed the Camino today, as they collected their “Compostela” Jennifer added Rio's name to it for he was very much part of their journey.
They cycled a lot of the journey with a special back pack to keep Rio in ... 'Im not sure what would be an ideal number of kilometers to walk your dog each day I suppose if depends on their fitness and of course you could not be walking in the high temperatures.
I wonder over the years how many abandoned Podencos have walked the Camino and been ignored, but Rio was found by people who cared and that moment his life changed forever. From the second I opened the message asking what they needed to do to get him back to the USA I just knew these are very special people.
Thank you to the Podenco family around the world and everyone else who embraced this story and supported the three of them along what some days were difficult. I am sure many of us have laughed and cried with them and what a wonderful ambassador Rio is for the Podencos, it is impossible not to love him.
Time to hang up your boots Rio and rest your weary paws and thank you to Jennifer and Mark for sharing your journey. I know this is not the final destination and I am sure Rio will have lots more adventures to tell us
