Anne Finch deceased

I recently learnt of the death on Sunday 5th August 2018 of Anne Finich, Founder of Greyhounds In Need, who tireless work on behalf of the greyhounds and Spanish galgos has lead to the current high profile of the abuse and maltreatment of the dogs and also the Podencos. Since she founded Greyhounds In Need hundreds of rescue associations and shelters for these hounds are now in existence, and the number of rescued hounds now living out their lives knowing love, a comfy bed and regular meals is countless. The facts of life for hunting dogs in Spain

'WHAT IS BEHIND GALGO AND PODENCO HUNTING IN SPAIN? THE IMAGES TELL THE TRUTH. LET IT BE SPREAD AND TOLD, LET IT SHUT THE LYING MOUTHS THAT SAY ABUSE HAPPENS IN "A COUPLE OF RANDOM CASES" ONLY...

Above all, make it clear that these photos are not intended to hurt anyone, nor, of course, morbidly wallow in the terrible hardships and mistreatment of galgos (Spanish greyhounds) and podencos.

After some hesitation, I decided to gather this series of images as a response to all those who deny and conceal this reality, trivialize it by saying that cases of abuse and neglect of these dogs are just a few, as well as that these are perpetrated by individuals who steal the dogs from their original owners. In the sight of all these pictures, it does not look like we are talking about "4 cases", as has been said, does it?

Galgos 112 - photos needed for 2019 calendar - closing date 18 8 2018

The competition is now open for submitting to Galgos 112 pictures of your beloved hound. Here is the information needed. Make sure you comply with the requirements or your photo won't be considered.

'Summer is hot, beach, vacation, mosquitoes ... and the Photographic Contest of Galgos 112, which this year celebrates its ninth edition! With the winning photos we will form the 2019 Calendar of our association.

One more year we have a free theme, should appear in every photo that is sent, at least a galgo, podenco or galgo cross or podenco adopted, in a shelter or waiting in a shelter or protectora and as in previous years, each contestant may send a maximum of 3 photographs, of which you must indicate the title, which must have a horizontal format of 16: 9 or 4: 3 (elongated).

The deadline to send them ends on August 18, 2018 at 23.59 hours and the shipping address is [email protected]

Help needed for Pepi's dogs

(Bill & Ben, podenco/basenji) Regular readers will know that over several years I have been publicising and appealing for help for the dogs in Pepis Refuge in Pedrera, Seville. Rachael Lepage is an amazing young woman living in the UK who has worked tirelessly to find forever homes for the dogs. Leash of Life is her association and here is her appeal, I hope you will support her.

'Leash of Life need your help! As some of you may know, a few months ago the owner of Pepi’s fell very ill suddenly and we were contacted asking if we could take the remaining dogs as a matter of urgency. Which we did. A Spanish rescue very kindly found kennel and refuge space for us im the Malaga province and have spent many hours checking on them and doing vet runs etc.

So far they have cost us thousands in vets, kennel and food bills and a handful of them are still in Spain due to us not having the fosters or the funds to bring them over to the UK. We also cannot book them to the kennels we usually use because our bill is already astronomical. The rescue that helped us with them now need them gone ASAP as they are blocking spaces they desperately need for their own dogs. Given how good they have been to us, we feel awful using resources they desperately need.
