Here are stories from Levriers sans Frontieres about 2 podencos, now safe with Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville, and who will eventually come to France for forever homes.
Here's the story of the first one, Bashira. After she was found at the roadside, throughout the journey to the shelter, she has not moved, not cried. she is so courageous and yet what she must suffer! She was rushed to the vet for urgent operation. Upon her arrival she was supported by Lillian, the veterinarian at the FBM, who took xrays. The legs are fractured, put in splints whilst waiting for an operation by the orthopedist. Under anaesthetic, her injuries have been disinfected and she was given antibiotic. This tiny podenca is barely a year old, what a terrible start to its life.
The second story is about another podenco found behind the gates of the FBM refuge at Ejica. rescued by FBM. The volunteers were shocked when they arrived and had to pick it up, his body was broken and covered in open injuries that leave one to assume that he had been attacked by other dogs. Three of its legs are fractured, it has 4 fractures to the total.
Here is the link to the story. The little podenco X puppy is with the refuge Arca de Noe, found in an extreme state of malnutrition and infected injuries. FBM were unable to save the little galgo puppy which died from pneumonia.
On the next LSF trip, they will be bringing 13 podencos from the refuges to forever homes in France.
