'You think you have seen it all and then a dog like this arrives and breaks your heart all over again. Thank you to the kind person who didn't just drive on past her. She has sustained serious trauma to the head, the most serious injury of which is a fractured skull. The injuries have happened a few days ago and the wounds are infected and there were maggots in them. The vet has cleaned up the wounds and administered pain killers, anti-inflammatory, antibiotics and she does have an IV to keep her hydrated. Obviously she will loose both of her eyes. We will see how she gets on over night.
It has been a tough decision but it is a miracle that this girl is even alive. She has eaten a small amount today (19/11) and it's obvious that she wants to live so we are going to give her every opportunity we can. Thank you to Beverley at Podenco Friends who didn't hesitate to offer help when we asked for it. If she does make it, and when she is well enough to travel, she has a place to go where she will receive all the attention and specialist care she will need.
This Podenca IS microchipped but despite trying from various angles, we cannot get in touch with her owner. According to her records she is 6 years old and her name is Tata. She has had 4 different owners in the last 9 months, the latest of which was just 11 days ago. If anybody recognises her please ask her owner to get in touch, we would like him to sign ownership over to us. We are going to call her ANGELIQUE for a new start and hopefully a better life.
20/11 update. Angelique had a comfortable night she is eating drinking had a little walk inside the clinic is responsive and had a pee. Her vitals are good they will review later today and hopefully she will have surgery to remove her eyes and close the wounds on her head. With her condition anesthetic is risky but then all surgeries have an element of risk. Permission was given to the vet right at the start if they thought she could not be helped then to let her pass over and if her condition deteriorated not to let her suffer. This Podenca walked for three days with this injury and survived so let's give her a chance. There is movement on the legal side and working with the local authorities. Will update when there is more news.

This is awful, poor girl and she walked for three days with these injuries! I will make a donation this week. I wonder if Blind Dog Rescue UK could help with finding her a forever home, they are a wonderful charity. Thank you for saving her and for giving her a chance to live.
