Rescued from Spain, lost in UK!

I'm always advocating adopting a podenco from a recognised established rehoming association which will make detailed homechecks and follow-ups, and who will also be there to take the dog into their care should the adoption fail for whatever reason. So, to have a podenco sold on Gumtree (it's not the first time a podenco has been advertised on Gumtree or Preloved) and another in a Scottish refuge (however good the refuge is) is unacceptable.

It is also unacceptable for someone in the UK to consider adopting an overseas rescue dog for breeding purposes. Reputable rehoming associations sterilize their dogs before they are homed.

8 podenco puppies in Seville perrera - help needed to get them out!

These podenco puppies are in the Zoosanitaria perrera in Seville province and at great risk of parvo! Pili is appealing for donations to rescue them and get them into foster. Here's what she says.

'The only adopted was the white boy.. For nearly a month in the kennel.. My partner and I are doing everything possible to save their lives looking for foster until October to get them to Alicante. Also, we are trying to raise for transport.. For Vets and for kennel fees, if necessary. It is very urgent that come out already.. otherwise they may all fall sick and die.

The above was posted on a friend's page. (Larger picture below) I thought I'd share it with you as I have learnt that one small association just rehomed a dog to someone who already has 18 dogs! Now, I have 5 dogs, french lurcher, 3 galgos and a podenco. All but one is too old to insure, so vet bills can be expensive. The old lurcher is on tablets which cost my hubbie 100 euros/month. On top of that, of course, we have dog food. I cannot understand how someone can afford 18 - soon to be 19 dogs!

I know the situation in Spain for the galgos and podencos is horrendous and associations are desperate to home dogs, to make room to rescue another one. But there has to be some sense applied in who is allowed to adopt. In France, if you have more than 9 dogs, you have to register as a kennels.

Thumbs up for the Podenco Andaluz! Coooeeee, I am Mickey at the back my galga girlfriend Olijfje and my friend Marleentje. We are adopted in Holland but I have many friends like me in Scooby in Spain who need a home themselves. We are little Podenco Andaluz, we are
very easy going, we love people and we are very friendly and careful with little children. In the house we are quite like galgo's but we are hunters and we like to make your garden mouse free. Hope you will give my Scooby friends a chance.

ALWAYS adopt from a recognised rehoming association, never adopt straight from a perrera where the dogs have not been character tested etc.
