Poet Alan Brian and Pepi with THE BOOK - finally arrived for his for Xmas! Order your copy here Proceeds to Pepis Dog Refuge to help the hounds.
And look what was dumped on them on Xmas Day, under the rubbish bags! Jane says it's the first time dogs have been dumped in a proper dog bed! 2 more mouths to feed - 80 dogs - costs 650 euros/month to feed them all. Please help, including Satin.
Dioni is hoping to travel 26th December to collect Frankfurther Hoggity Doggity. Here's the story of another podenco, safe for Xmas, who will be travelling with him from 112carlotagalgos to Last Hope Dog Rescue for preparation for rehoming. Charl tells the story.
'So while we were away Sebastian was called regarding a rescue. This podenco had been followed by Francisco to his door while he took his dogs out he came back and the young pod sat still on his door step. Waiting.. praying he'd come to the right place. He was taken in by the couple but while we were in Belgium they kept him. So here he is! A sweet young pod. Approx 1 year old.
A million thanks to everyone involved in galgo and podenco rescue, to the fosterers and adoptants who give these fabulous hounds forever homes. And thank you for reading and sharing my posts and appeals.
Frankfurter Hoggity Doggity Fernando has an association to take him - Last Hope Dog Rescue. Irene and Steve Allan are very experienced podenco adoptants, fosterers etc in the association. So I'm now sorting out transport to take him from Kate's to them. Will keep you posted. BUT - we'll need to raise the money to pay the transport costs, when I know them.
So, rest easy, Kate, help is on its way. Bless everyone for caring about both Kate and the podenco.
UK vets don't seem to have much knowledge of leishmania - and now that so many Spanish dogs are being adopted there, we need to educate them. I always recommend an annual blood analysis for leishmania, even if the passport blood reports say 'negative'. It has been known for a 'negative' dog to develop leishmania.
So please share the information on this link with your UK vet. Those of us with experience of dogs with leishmania know it's nothing to be concerned about once the treatment is in place...but we need to educate the UK vets, especially on where to get the requisite medication. One couple I know used to travel back to Spain just to get it, as they couldn't get it in the UK or on the Internet.
Anita, mini podenca, 4,5k, lying in a corner without being able to move after being knocked down... Snuggled up to die without aid, 5 days in the sight of all people, and nobody came to help her'.. In cantillana.
Dreadful example of cruelty and cold indifference... This is the case that reaches us and despite the enormous debts that we have with the vet we cannot leave here.... Anita is in the care of the vet and she needs your help!
The perrita had disappeared from the place where she was knocked down, curled up to die away from the road.
Dogs of Portugal have this fabulous little Portuguese Podengo waiting for his forever home. Wouldn't it be great if he got one for his Xmas present. Read about him on this link and see the videos of him. Let's help this lovely hound.
Update on frankfurther hoggity doggity! 11/12/2014
'He's really young - only seven months, poor baby.
On Wednesday, Pepino said he'd be fine without an operation.
However, yesterday, he was less bouncy and didn't want to go for such a long walk, so I'm afraid that his leg may be hurting, perhaps because the vet didn't have any of those stiff bandages (she's so useless) and when I went to buy one, the shops were closed for a long weekend for the Annunciación.
I still hope he won't need an operation.
However, I'd really like to get him to Morón to be seen by the special podenco vet.
