It's always great to have a happy homing story. Here's one about a lucky Podenca Canario rescued and rehomed by TARA association.
'LISA joined the TARA family 11 months ago when she was found on a goat farm that was soon christened "hell" Some caring tourists had stumbled across this place, and could not believe the conditions the animals were kept in.
Everyday they took food and water to the dogs, and knew they wanted to help some escape these conditions. They contacted TARA and asked for help, and we stepped in to ensure that at least some of the dogs could be saved.
Four dogs were rescued, and were soon christened the four amigo's, all with different medical, emotional, and physical issues. Lisa had her been beaten, starved and chained up to die. Her ears had been allowed to be eaten by flies, and she was covered in ticks and fleas.
Lisa also had aggression issues with food, and disliked everyone, which made her recovery slow, but everyday she improved. Slowly Lisa begun to trust again, her injuries recovered, and her mind begun to believe that she could find happiness and peace.
The other amigos found their forever homes, but Lisa remained in the kennels. Although we promoted her everywhere we could, no one seemed to be able to offer Lisa a place in their home and heart.
We begun to promote her on the UK, as a new way to reach caring people. This finally paid off, and we were approached by a lovely couple who wanted to offer Lisa a home. Unfortunately, the cost to fly dogs to the UK remains high, and this was going to be the next challenge.
With Lisa's home in sight we knew we could not give up, and with the generosity of many of our supporters Lisa's flight was booked. On January 20th exactly 11 months since she was rescued from "hell" Lisa flew to her forever home.
Her new home has been in contact, and they adore her, she has a new coat as of course the harsh UK weather is not something that she is used to at all. We have updates and photos which is what makes our job so worthwhile.
Team TARA would like to thank......Rene and Lisa for finding Lisa, and caring enough to step into "hell". To the volunteers that cared for Lisa, treated her wounds and showed her that people can be trusted. To the vets at Tenesoya that gave Lisa the care and treatments from day one. To the many supporters that shared her story, bought her treats and donated towards her flight. To DOGWATCH UK, that helped us in the UK and ensured that Lisa's new home was perfect....but the biggest THANK YOU must go to Tina and Dave who opened their hearts and offered our beautiful Lisa a forever home!'
Please think about adopting a podenco from the Canary Islands, their only hope of a forever home is on mainland Europe. Contact TARA about other podencos.
What a lovely story, so many wonderful people helping, gives hope! Lucky little pod, so glad she is now happy in a loving home. Tina and Dave are super stars for adopting her. It's lovely to hear of a happy ending.
