Walking through Wallonia for rescued dogs - please sponsor me

Lucy Irvine is walking for Pepis Dog Refuge. They've over 70 dogs to care for, all needing forever homes. Here's what she says about it.

'It's a 50km walk through Wallonia in Belgium and it's spread out over two days, the 5th and 6th of April. You can read why I'm doing it on this link. Let's hope the weather is kind to me!'

Podenco Vigo in Portugal - waiting for forever

This beautiful podenco is Vigo and he lives in Portugal. He was rescued from a bad shelter where there were a lot of sick dogs. Vigo had it all…. Leishmaniose, heartworm, skin problems etc. A foster home was found for him and the money raised to pay for all the veterinary treatment he needed. He's been there since September. He has recovered fully from all his ailments and is ready for adoption. The vet thinks he is about 7 years old.

Podencos and cats - compatible?

This beautiful photo is of Podenca Canario Fada from Tenerife and in foster with Mieke Coryn in Belgium. Just proving that some podencos can live with cats.

She's underweight at the moment, Mieke says 'she was found on the streets with a wounded leg and those people took care of her for 2 weeks. But she was tied with a chain on their balcony because they weren't allowed animals. After that the organisation took over and she was spayed and stayed at the pension for a few weeks until her flight here.'

Fada will soon gain weight now she is in foster receiving regular meals and love.

Podenco Andaluz in Mexico

The small Podenco Andaluz is bred and used for hunting in Mexico, where they are known as Podenco Arcabuceros. Here's a short video of them hunting, mostly quail and rabbits. Also a link to the website of a Podenquero who breeds them, some of which he exports to Andalucia, Spain! As if there aren't enough podencos there - overbred and abandoned!

Publicity for the Podencos

Alex Frederikson lives in Austria and has adopted a couple of podencos in the last 12 months. She is now writing articles about them, here's a link to one. Well done, Alex, any publicity is positive. However I've been rescuing and fostering and publicising and writing about the podencos for several years, and have to admit I wonder why it has taken so long for people to take notice!!

Podenca Amber - Lanzarote to UK - can you help?

Regular readers will know that I often mention the podencos waiting in the Canary Islands for forever homes, and that it is expensive to get them to the UK for rehoming. This is an appeal to ask if you can help towards getting this beautiful podenca to her forever home. Laura tells the story.

'This is AMBER. She is an 18 month old female Podenco. She was found by holidaymakers and ended up in the dog pound. We went and met with them as they desperately wanted to take this beautiful girl home with them.

Plans were made and finances organised but sadly in the last 3 weeks a lot has changed.
