Podencos as Pets - Tilly Tealeaf tells a tail or two!

Here's a delightful piece by Bev Farmer, about her Podenca Tilly.

Tilly Tea-Leaf syndrome ( Liberatio bonorum suorum) is a condition commonly known as the liberation of personal possessions. It was first officially named in 2003 after a Podenco called Tilly. This condition has been reported worldwide and effects all breeds of dogs, some more than others

Symptoms: The stealing of various items and running around the garden showing them off to everyone. In particular shoes, underwear, tea towels, cushions and in extreme cases mobile phones, TV controls and at times destruction of such items.

Podenco Campanero, Podenco Andaluz - Rioja rescues

THOR is an angel, a big softy Podenco Campanero. He is very gentle and affectionate, weighs 33 kg, very sociable with other dogs, great with people. (SOS Animals have just found a forever home in the UK for another Campanero Chaplin)

Claudia is a pretty young choc female Podenca Andaluz, very friendly, her whole body moves as she wags her tail. Just wants somebody to accept her love for the rest of her life.

Torre del Campo, Jaen - another injured galgo - what is wrong in Spain>

Lourdes Pulgar tells the story.

A couple of days ago, someone took a male galgo to the protectora, which they found in Lindares. Now I have been to collect it to take to the garage/mini refuge refuge where there are 8 more dogs.

I was told that it could not walk; it is not lame. has problems of co-ordination and walks as if it was drunk; he eats and drinks as if it had parkinson. I cannot express how I have felt while it was walking - see the videos, it was falling down and
it was stumbling constantly while I was crying was cursing the hunter who has left it.

Less than a year old, he has had a VERY STRONG BLOW IN THE HEAD and this
is the cause of the problem; it also has woulds to its feet. It is ill too.

Podenco Ibicenco needs caring person to save him and rehabilitate him

Lira is an Ibizan Hound of 3-4 years that fell into a ditch while he was out hunting. With the bad luck that other dogs fell on it, and thus was the worst injured, otherwise his injuries would not have been so serious.

Lira is a medium-sized Hound (it will not reach 20 kgs, should be closer to 15 than 20), very good and is searching for someone to give him a chance, to help him record and a chance of life. If no one takes care of him, he will be sacrificed because he has already been three months in the clinic and needs time spending with him, to exercise, time, etc. (I've asked why no x-rays yet!)

Angela, what can I say? She has been with us now a year, she has never complained she has never cried. Rescued from rejection, and yet rejected again. For as much as her galguero threw her out, her precious babies left behind, she was wandering around with chronic mastitis and a broken heart. Healed of such at 112 carlota galgos, she is rejected again for adoptants just don't see her! Here she is peeking over Mariposa's back, this is Angela.

Bullas, Murcia - 50 podencos need getting out - Pro-Setter Spain organising, please help

I've just had news that there are still 50 podencos which need getting out of the camp in Bullas, Murcia, where the owner has been denounced and Seprona have said the dogs will be put down if they are not rescued. Here's some pix of them. It's a mammoth task as all the dogs rescued need flea and tick treatment, some have diahorrea, some are sick, most are malnourished. La Rioja - more than just winery tours - Animales Rioja

Clint is a beautiful rough haired Podenco Ibicenco who was rescued from the Rioja perrera. He has a problem with his sight, probably because in his past life he has been kept in the dark.

Little Podenca Andaluz Rubia (see below) has also been rescued from the perrera; she is very thin and malnourished. She now seeks a warm house where she can recover and be beautiful!

120 Podencos and Galgos in Bullas, Murcia - rescue associations please help

Here is the latest update on the 120 galgos, podencos, setters, pointers...all in an enclosure in Bullas, Murcia. Pro-Setter Spain are co-ordinating the rescue, Galgos del Sol in Murcia, along with three other associations, have already taken out 14 dogs. Watch the video - it shows the truth of how thousands of these dogs are kept in rural areas by the Spanish hunters and gitanos. See photos of one rescue.

This year is the worst year yet for the Spanish hunting dogs.
