I can't emphasise enough about the podencos on the Spanish Islands, Canary Islands and Ibiza. Their only hope of forever homes is on mainland Europe. Please don't overlook these deserving hounds when you are thinking of taking a podenco into your home.
These two beauties are in the care of SARA Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
Milka is about 6 years old, a large podenco canario, and was found abandoned with her sistenr in the volcano on Lanzarote. She's not much of a hunter, prefers to be with people, loving and obediante, walks without being on a lead. A fantastic hound for a companion dog. She is very good and happy
Video of Operation Rehala, Bullas, Murcia, on 9th March 2012, taken by Pro-Setter. Rescue associations from across Spain joined together to rescue all these dogs. However, the bastard owner had already removed puppies and taken them to another site.
Great Day for the podencos at the SARA Protectora, Lanzarote, Canary Islands. The only chance of a forever home for these fabulous hounds is on mainland Europe. Some are already in the UK waiting for homes, others find homes in Germany. Please give them a chance.
Regular readers will have been following the two large rescues carried out in Murcia in January and February 2012, namely at a gypsy camp with 74 dogs, and Bullas with 120 dogs. Vivienne Wharton lives near Cartegena, Murcia and has written about her experiences with the Bullas rescue on 9th March 2012.
The shame in Spain
I recently started my activities in a facebook group - Animal Welfare Support Murcia, whilst waiting for my Association, Actin, to be registered by the Town Hall. Actin - Animal Care Treatment International Network is not a rescue charity but an Association which will endeavor to make changes to the overwhelming situation of abandoned and neglected dogs, cats and other domestic animals in the region. We plan to do this through many activities including education and campaigns.
This podenco is on the outskirts of Gerena, Seville. It's about 12 kg and very young, is wounded in its neck by the wide collar on it, which has a bell!. It's huddling under these large sones out of the heat. Scared, it hides in the hush when approached. There is a girl putting food out to try and gain its trust - she's called the dog Campanillo. An extra problem, if he can't be caught soon, is that he will grow and the collar will cut into the flesh of its neck.
Is there anyone, especially an association, in the area who could help catch this podenco? Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
This little baby is in Malaga perrera.....LALI is a small podenquita, very sweet, although easily scared, with beautiful eyes. If she is not take out, her life will be over before it has even begun.
It is not possible to reserve her, it's necessary to go, pay the charge of 50 euros, and then she can be rescued. It is a very urgent, maximum diffusion, please.
I hope between us all we can give this little baby a chance. CONTACTO email@example.com
This is Melvin, a young medium sized podenco on death row in the Rioja perrera, due to be killed by next weekend - 18/20 March. If you can help save them, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com I've posted the pictures in the order in which their names are listed here.
