Seville area, can anyone save this podenca bitch and her 2 puppies. She's in an area where there is garbage dumped, and dogs, dead from cold and hunger. Please has anyone room to take them temporarily or longer, otherwise they too will probably die from hunger and cold. The sender of the appeal is already full to bursting. Contact [email protected]

Traffic in Malaga was today brought to a standstill when animal lovers in Andalucia took to the streets to protest about animal cruelty in Spain and in particular the plight of the galgos at the hands of the hunters. It's at this time of year that the galgueros get rid of their dogs - upwards of 50,000 every year. The protestors wore black, many of the dogs wore black collars and scarves. Well done, everyone. Happy Ending-Final Feliz is a dog rescue shelter near Chiclana, Cadiz, in southern Spain. It was started by a Norwegian lady, Margarita, and her loyal band of supporters fundraise to pay for the keep of the dogs they rescue and look after. Their current fundraiser is a Photo Competition. Here's the link to the details, scroll down the page. Closing date for entries is 31st March and there are 3 categories. Entries are only 2 euros each, so get sending your photos in and help boost their funds.

There will be an organized walk in Malaga on the 12 February at 12.00 to mark the end of the hunting season and what happens to the dogs. It is a well organized event and attracts a lot of publicity people will wear black and put black scarves on their Podencos & Galgos. If anybody is interested in attending this event here is the information on facebook. Further details below.

Do you remember the story of Ana, the podenca near Valencia, with a badly injured hind leg and who was so distrustful of humans that it took nearly 3 months to catch her. During that time she had some pups - who are in foster - and is now safe with 112carlotagalgos.
Ana's problems were not over after she was caught. Vet Paco examined her injured leg and pronounced it too damaged to repair, then she caught an infection, and now she has had to have surgery to remove her leg. But not to worry, 3-legged amputees can run as fast as 4-legged if they want to! Charl tells Ana's story so far.

Poor dogs. They try their best for their masters - and mistresses - and are rewarded by being dumped - anywhere - busy roads, down wells, on the campo with broken legs, in the killing stations. Killing stations - barking dogs, stressed dogs, some of the worst perreras don't believe in feeding dogs to be killed, water is green - I've the reports and photos on my weblogs. BLANKETS needed for the dogs at a little refuge in Torredelcampo, Jaen. Lourdes, one of the girls that rescued the little podenca with the eye out works there helping the person that keeps 9 dogs in a semi-open garage. THEY ARE FREEZING TO DEATH, the dog’s drinking water is frozen, the galgas are crying and shivering constantly because of the cold. Read the story below for Lourdes contact address.
