However hard the rehoming associations work to fit the right dog with the right home, sometimes situations change and that happened for this stunning Podenco Canario from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Here's what Rick says.
'This stunning boy has been returned to us after only 5 months in his 'forever' home - and not because of anything HE did wrong! The reason given by the family is 'we couldn’t spend enough time with him as we have started extra duties at church.'
Originally called Lelo, he is an absolute stunning 30 month old dog of medium size for a Podenco Canario, housetrained, great with people, kids and other dogs and perhaps most significantly stays with you out on walks never bogging off chasing furrys. In short he is a perfect Podenco for someone. He has also the endearing habit of sitting up and begging when scolded, which some people seem to like!
He would make a perfect family pet either to integrate with another dog (which I think he’d prefer as he loves to play with our 18 month old Bardino x Yak) But he would also be comfortable fitting in on his own somewhere, as he loves people too and, provided he got his daily walks, he’d happily settle to being an only pet.
We need to find him a new home quickly as he is rapidly making himself at home and getting under both our skins! He arrived back with us 4 days after we had our 17 yr old Dalmation put down due to old age and he has taken his place in his bed by my side in the bedroom.
I’ve attached a photo of him taken some time ago in Lanzarote. His name in SARA was Lelo, his adopted parents named him Mocha, I’ve nicknamed him Nosha as he is a cracking eater.'
This stunning podenco is a perfect example of the Podenco Canario and will be a marvellous ambassador for the breed. Probably still young enough to train for agility work too.
If you can offer this fabulous hound his true forever home - who has been cast aside by people who don't care enough to accept 'a dog for life - it's life' please contact Rick in Lincolnshire.
How could they, extra church duties? No Christian ethics there! Will share on FB and hope someone offers a TRUE forever home soon
