Urgent! Save this Podenco Maneto abandoned in Seville!

This little chap is a young Podenco Maneto, abandoned in a town near Seville. He's going around the bars begging for food, subject to abuse from people, kicking him, chasing him, wandering in the hope that someone will save him from 'the brats of the village'. Podenca/Galga desperately needs forever - don't forget the xbreeds

This pretty lady is a podenca x galgo; you can see from the trouser leg that the man holding her is in khaki. He is a hunter who is now looking for a 'friend' to take the bitch, as he no longer wants her. At least he hasn't just dumped her. Happy Endings for two little podencos

I'm pleased to report that Lucia, the little podenca with the terrible scar on her back, has already been reserved and will be going to her forever home in the USA. And Dobby, the podenco on death row, is hopefully going to a forever home in Belgium. Here is a lovely video of him in his foster home. Thank you to Galgos del Sol for saving them.

Sadly there are thousands of puppies on death row throughout the perreras of Spain; we can't help them all, we just focus on the galgos and podencos. Action is long overdue to stop the over breeding of dogs for material gain and those born to abandoned un-neutered bitches.

Podenca Canario Mami - saved from starvation on Gran Canaria

It's easy to overlook that the popular holiday desinations of Ibiza and the Canary Islands are also part of Spain. Whilst Ibiza is quite close to the mainland, the Canary Islands are down in the Atlantic off the coast of West Africa. Life on these islands is hard for the animals - many used by tourists - whilst hundreds of others are used for hunting. Luckily there are rescue associations picking up the pieces, but the only hope of a life for an animal outside an animal shelter or refuge is to be adopted on mainland Europe.

This is the story of Mami, a Podenco Canario, whose mouth was taped up before she was dumped in the mountains on Gran Canaria, abandoned to a slow and painful death.

Podenca Pup Lucia - already packed a lot of living into her short life

Galgos del Sol in Murcia have just taken in this cute little podenca puppy, about 4/5 months old. Just look at those fabulous ears! She's been named Lucia, a beautiful name for a beautiful baby. Petition the Spanish Government - fight for the galgos and podencos of Spain

In partnership with Urgence-animaux, le Bulletin Des Lévriers has launched a new worldwide petition to ask for the ban of hunting with Spanish Greyhounds (Galgos) in Spain. In 2009, we sent the 20.000 signatures which we had we collected thanks to Care2 to the Spanish Minister of the Environment. Let's mobilize again to show the Spanish government that people around the World do not give-up on abused Sighthounds in Spain and that ill-treatments, very real, of Galgos and Podencos in Spain has to stop. This podenco puppy was found yesterday by a young woman out walking; she heard some barking and discovered him, very skinny and covered in ticks. She took him some food, but has no room to take him in. Please can anyone take him, before the hunters do....The site is not a place for him...Please can someone do a host, he's all alone ...

TARA Association Gran Canaria - 14-20 September - cats/dogs neutered free

If you live on Gran Canaria, Brian from TARA association has sent this message, about having your cat/dog neutered for free.

'From the 14th through the 20th of September Danish Friends of Animals volulnteers, Dr. Javier Castellano (County Mogan Vet), TARA volunteers, and animal support groups and volunteers from around our wonderful island will be working side by side to neuter up to 250 abandoned dogs and cats for FREE!

Over population of dogs and cats on Gran Canarias leads to the death of tens of thousands of unwanted, unhomed animals bred by humans to be domesticated - needing humans to survive and thrive. Neutering is an important part of the solution.

Urgent help required - I know everyone is full to overflowing with abandoned dogs but this little podenca mammy is abandoned on the campo at Cadiz with her babies...
