Podencos come in various sizes - read about the different types on Podenco Post - and coat colours - chestnut, chestnut and white, smooth haired, rough haired. But whatever size and coat type, they are all fabulous hounds who suffer at the hands of the hunters, just as the galgos do.
Podencos are more active dogs, many with training will make agility dogs - a Spanish association on Ibiza uses them as PAT dogs (Pets as Therapy) visiting hospitals, homes for handicapped.....
Here are just two lovely one looking for forever homes
Sandy is a beautiful podenca approx 5yrs old (although there is a difference in opinion for her age, some think much younger 2years).
We found Sandy with Floyd (see below) and assumed he was her baby but now we are not sure, it is a possibility she adopted him. What a special girl looking after the youngens who are also abandoned without a second thought.
Sandy is fully vaccined and spayed and we wait for her blood test results. Sandy is very obedient and calm. She really is quite special and would make a fantastic family companion. She is full of confidence, loves to play and is really sweet around other dogs. She would fit in anywhere.
Any family would be lucky to adopt such a sweet podenca like Sandy.
Floyd is approx 3mths old. He was found with Sandy but we are not convinced this little podenco cross is actually her puppy.
He is an absolute cuddle monster and they don't come much cuter. He has started his vaccines and gets on great with other dogs.
There are more on the Galgos del Sol website, including one with a UK pet passport being prepared
