When humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have
To those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write;
To some poor wistful lonely stray
I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy,
The well-loved lap, the gently stoking hand,
The loving voice,
The place I made in someone’s heart,
The love that, at the last, could help me to
A peaceful, painless end,
Held in loving arms.
If I should die, Oh! Do not say,
“No more a pet I’ll have
To grieve me by its loss”.
Seek out some lonely, unloved dog
And give my place to him.
This is my legacy I leave behind
‘Tis all I have to give.
Thank you to David Dron for sending this - lovely
I can hardly see to write this im cying so much. One of my girls is fighting cancer we thought she may have beat it until yesterday when we found she has developed another tumour although we will continue with her treatment sadly do not expect her to have long left. this poem is so true but at the time of losing a dog the thought of going through it again is too much but of course we do precisely because we do love them so much. I wish all dogs could have a peaceful and loving ending.

So sorry you are having a sad time with your gal, but at least she knows love and care, and you know you have done as much as you can for her. Of course we all know that as soon as we take on an animal, we will have heartbreak if we outlive them! I've got 4 dogs, 2 horses and a cat.........! Sending you hugs
