Last weekend we have traveled to Murcia to collect more animals whose lives were in serious danger.
The people who rescue them, in the end, always end up getting in touch with us, because despite their multiple appeals, can no other association help them save the lives of these innocent beings?. Total has been 24 dogs, between galgos and podencos. And other animals.......
The black galgo is one of the picked up dogs this weekend in Murcia, he has a broken leg and a vet gave the owner the advice to kill him ?? because the operation would cost a lot of money and he would probably never be able anymore to run enough fast for hunting...
Although we have rescued this year various animals with fractures and almost drown in the costs, we can not look the other way and leave this galgo being killed one way or the other?.
Below are photos of some of the dogs, all ex hunters as you can see.
The podencos and galgos in Portugal suffer just as much inhumane treatment and abuse as the ones in Spain, as I often publish on my blogs. Yet they don't get the media coverage to help them find homes. Here are 4 lovelies who have been taken by a huner to the Dogs of Portugal refuge and who will be hoping forever homes. Contact Dogs of Portugal direct if you would like to adopt one.
Here's a video of them all. Lovely happy dogs, just ready for a home and loving! How could you resist that gorgeous face of Lina!
This is my home.. If you can call it that. I’m imprisoned within these walls without even a window to look out of. My water is green and yet I’m meant to drink it still. I’m being eaten alive by insects, I have no bed to lay on and the food is like eating cardboard. The howls of other dogs who surround me keep me awake at night. They cry for their families, just for someone to love them!
Can you see the marks on the walls behind me? That’s my many failed attempts at escaping this hell hole. I can’t get out, unless someone takes me out. I wonder who will? Will anyone? And where will they take me? Will it be to a new life or a vets room..?
Will I fall asleep and wake up with someone caressing my fur and telling me I’m a good dog? Or will I just never wake up...?
I can’t answer these questions but YOU could.. YOU have the power to free me or any dog in here.. I guess the real question is,

I feel emotions, just as you do. Just like you I feel Love, I feel Fear, I feel Pain and Joy. I also feel Grief!
I am not born knowing how to fit into your life. I will sometimes get it wrong. Sometimes I will not understand what you expect. I may fear things or act in a way you don’t understand. I may not understand how you are acting, or that strangers to the home mean no harm. I may not know what is acceptable to play with and what is not! I have to be taught these things, just as you had to be taught as a child.
I am an individual, and just like you may not fit exactly into your expectations.
Please teach me. I like to learn. I like to please. I love to be loved.
Just because I may make mistakes please don’t discard me.
I should not be an ‘until’ dog. I should be a forever dog!
