Mindy and Roda are two gorgeous young podencas which are now in foster care in France and desperately looking for their forever homes. Here's the story of how they came to be in France.
If you can offer either of them the rest of their life in a forever home, where they will give you total devotion, please contact Phoenix Association.
You may not know the breed Podenco but they are a sighthound, like the Pharoah Hound, and are subject to bad treatment and abandonment by the Spanish hunters. For most in shelters on the Spanish Islands, forever homes in mainland Europe is their only hope of life outside the shelter. They are an extremely loyal breed and make fantastic companions.
Arminda and Roda are stunning Podencos from the SARA shelter on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands; rescued as small puppies, they are now in a foster home near Nontron, for Phoenix Association. They are THE most beautiful and delightful dogs and each is hoping for a forever home as soon as possible, so they can discover the comfort of a warm fireside, long walks and a family.
ARMINDA is 8-months old, gentle, happy, loving and affectionate, good with children and other dogs.
RODA is 12 months old with a similar nature to Mindy and loves cuddles on the sofa with foster mum.
Both dogs have had basic recall training but would benefit from further obedience work. They are clean and well-mannered in the house and car, microchipped, vaccinated and sterilised and will be blood tested for a UK Pet Passport., until Phoenix took her on, had spent most of her young life in kennels. For the first time in her life she has discovered the joy of running free, so we forgive her for being, as yet, a little uneducated regarding her recall.
If you are looking for a young dog to train, who loves playing and walks, these girls are perfect, have never hunted, and would certainly be a wonderful canine addition to any family.
Read more about them and see more pictures on the Phoenix website

My Podenca is an absolutely adorable character and a delight to have around. Here's what two other podenco owners say about their podencos.
I cannot begin to say how much I adore my Podenco, she is beautiful, sweet, comical, loyal and loving. Please anyone considering giving one of these wonderful animals a home, they make fabulous pets, they are quiet and clean and mine is actually very lazy! Her loyalty ensures she is not far from my side. I feel so privilaged to have her in my life. JD. UK
Podencos are the greatest dogs in the world! They suffer from cruel treatment like as galgos, that's why we fight for them with our whole heart and soul! I wouldn't be without mine. Edwin, Holland
They are having blood tests so that, with the right background checks, they could be adopted for entry into the UK on their passport . NB Now positive to go to the UK from end August 2011!
